William P. Fife Study on Chronic Lyme Disease using HBOT
William P. Fife, PHD was the first to research the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on people with Lyme Disease. His subjects had all failed on IV antibiotic therapy and continued to deteriorate even though on a variety of antibiotics. 91 subjects received HBOT at 2.36 ATA (45 fsw) for 60 minutes, twice a day, 5 days a week with 2 days off between weeks. The total number of treatments varied between 10 to 30 treatments predominantly. 12 people reported no improvement while the rest reported a decrease or elimination of symptoms.
Since this landmark study, many hyperbaric facilities have administered HBOT to Lyme Disease patients around the world. More research is warranted.
