Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, Lyell's Syndrome
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) also sometimes known as the more serious Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) or Lyell's Syndrome are conditions where patches of skin die and fall off. The management of the condition is very similar to that of acute thermal burns, a condition that is approved by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) for reimbursement. The scientific literature has numerous examples of cases treated in burn units using hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT.) Unfortunately, SJS or TEN are not HBOT approved conditions by the UHMS.
